WARNING: The vibration emission during actual use of the power tool can differ from the declared emission value depending on the ways in which the tool is used. Both of these brands make a lot of cordless combi drills, but this one from Makita seems to fall square in the middle of the affordability / power equation.

The DeWalt 18V battery that came with the drill is the same battery you will find on the whole XR range of products. The Makita DHP485 is, like most new combi drills compact, it actually feels a little too compact when you consider the abuse these tools get on site.Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents. If you are also interested in other parameters of the drill, its capabilities, better said, it is only good. If you operate the tool with the speed change lever positioned halfway between the "1" side and "2" side, the tool may be damaged. The chuck however jammed a little after some heavy use, we are not sure if it was simply over use, over heating or something else, once some elbow grease was applied it was fine, bit it was a bit of a concern. You could therefore see model numbers for drills which are all the same drill, but with different colours/options.

mind you 2 or 3 other tools have had switch problems ,and others have had to be pressed a few times to work.Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or remove the battery pack, if detachable, from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. The Makita DHP485 is a compact 2 speed combi drill with hammer mode that delivers outstanding performance from a compact unit and is powered by an 18v brushless motor that is more efficient than a brushed motor improving run time by around 30%. Power tool mate are currently on Milwaukee deals after doing DeWalt last week and I think Makita next week. It even happens at Powered Now, I am a huge Makita fan, where Zoltan (the Powered Now CTO) is a massive DeWalt fanboy! Driver bit Fit the driver bit holder into the protrusion at the tool foot on either right or left side and secure it with a screw.

So, whether you're just starting out in DIY, or a regular fixer upper in need of a new Makita drill, then look no further. The DHP482 has a brushed motor, 2-speed gearbox with plastic housing and plastic chuck, 21 torque settings and will deliver 60Nm of torque.

Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of tools allow you to become complacent and ignore tool safety principles. My trusted Makita combi drill gave up a few weeks back after 10 years service, this new one should be an upgrade, being brushless. However I was really keen to try out the DeWalt, especially as I have been using an old corded DeWalt hammer drill for years (which I still love). Makita has also included a free 100-Peice Drill and Screwdriver Bit Set (B-53811) in the promotional offer that can be redeemed with the purchase of the 18V LXT Combi Drill (DHP453F001) or the Brushless Combi Drill (DHP485T001).
