About this deal

Maybe you’re really into dungeon-crawling board games like HeroQuest, Zombicide, Gloomhaven, or Descent: Legends of the Dark. Maybe you’re more into strategy games, like Scythe or Twilight Imperium: Fourth Edition. Or maybe you’re curious about more freeform miniatures skirmish games, like Star Wars: Legion, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Necromunda, or Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team. Wherever your interests lie, start with a game or a universe you really enjoy and that bit of passion you feel in your gut will help to get you across the finish line with your first batch of painted minis. These are both proper airbrush compressors with everything you need to get started and continue for years. Strong pressure which offers everything you need for miniature painting. You even get pressure regulation for then you need to lower the pressure for thinner paints. and unlike the mini compressor in the section above you actually get a pressure gauge so you can tell what PSU/BAR you are spraying at. Update: Thanks to Matthew in the Comments & Chris from The Hobby Hangout Facebook Group we now have the Nozzle Size. 0.5 on the Patriot 105 and 0.3mm on the Patriot 105 Extreme. There are also conversion kits for different sizes available online.

In addition to the colors, you also get one round starter brush, side cutters for clipping model parts of the sprue, and a scraper to remove mold lines. Basically, this set has every tool you need to start modeling from zero (except glue). There are many different types of miniature paint sets available, each tailored to different types of models and preferences. Some sets may be designed for specific genres or time periods, such as World War II tanks or fantasy characters. Others may be designed for specific techniques or effects, such as weathering, metallic, or even chameleon finishes.

This is my practice Dark Angels Space Marine against the Airbrushed version, Fair I used different colours but we are comparing the paint consistency on the armour here. as you can see the airbrushed model looks much smoother with no brush marks

The last style of painting that we’ll deal with in this guide is called “slapchop,” named after a mostly satirical video by The Honest Wargamer that helped to popularize the style in 2022. While they clearly set out to take the piss out of over-serious painting videos and YouTube hobby gurus in general, they accidentally made a decent little tutorial of their own. Here’s how it works. Update: Chris from The Hobby Hangout Facebook Group has given us the sizes (1) Fine is 0.2mm. (2) Medium is 0.3mm and (3) Large is 0.5mm.The Infinity CRplus 0,15, 0,2 & 0,4 come with 0.15mm, 0.2mm and 0.4mm needles respectively. The 0,4 retail box also upgrades the changeable paint cup from 2ml to 5ml. They offer two different two-in-one kits, one with the 0.15 and 0.4mm nozzles, the other with the 0.2 & 0.4mm nozzles. Each of these comes with both 2ml and 5ml paint cups.

So, are you with me? you know you need the 2 things, Airbrush & Compressor. And there are essentially 4 ways you can go next. The other brand I recommend and my personal favourite is the lesser known Stynylrez from Badger Easy App Surface Primer. Once again this is pre-thinned and comes in a variety of colours and sizes. But I prefer the finish this gives over the Vallejo and the Grey (which is my preference in most cases) is more of a 50% grey (estimate) than Vallejo’s more 25% grey (estimate) which may as well be called Dark White. But this is harder to come by (in the UK at least), is a bit more expensive and can be more prone to clogging in the British climate. But If more people buy this though they’ll hopefully start exporting more, so if you want to support me in any way, please try some so we can get more over here. Ok, I’ve not done an exhaustive comparison here, I’m really just directly comparing Games Workshop’s and The Army Painter’s Spray Primer range to something Like Vallejo’s Airbrush Primer range where the colour availability is much greater. But I know many of you will use something like Rustoleum or other sprays where I have no idea of the number of colours available. Seriously, if you don’t get an airbrush free with your compressor consider starting with the cheapest airbrush you can find, but there is one other minor consideration. The Needle/Nozzle Size Needle/Nozzle SizeIf you are going to buy an airbrush. – get this. Whilst it is expensive and some may baulk at the price, to be fair on the budget side of things, this is still pretty midrange when compared to some Airbrushes on this list. The most common way to prime miniatures is with canned spray paint. Just about anything that you can find at the local hardware store will do, but be sure to read the label to make sure it’s safe to apply on plastic. Also, avoid enamel and other oil-based primers as they can be hard to clean up.

They feel cheap, the airbrush is trash, they are heavy, their charge doesn’t last very long and the pressure is rather poor. Model paint sets are small collections of paint colors designed for use in painting models, such as miniature figurines, model airplanes, or model cars. These paint sets typically include a range of colors and shades that are specifically formulated for use on one specific type range of colors of similar models, and they may also include different types and families of paints in the same box. They can be valid for both brush and airbrush. We’ve mentioned several times that contrast-style paints can be deceptive in how they’ll actually look on your model. Below you’ll find the official color guides for Citadel Contrast paints, as well as those same paints applied on top of various surfaces — including metallic paints. Aside from this, you can also get brushes with a screw on the front, normally below the paint cup (though none of these is on our list). This will narrow the tube which the air flows through, again limiting the speed of paint you express through the nozzle. You can also buy a separate line adapter for this function. If you feel like you would need it and if you like to have options (of having more dials and knobs), it’s something you can consider. Airbrush psi for miniatures. Your goal when you first start painting miniatures is to get used to how paint behaves on your brush and when you apply the paint on your model. You will probably ruin your first brushes in the first few weeks or months you start the hobby. So, don’t worry about buying expensive tools just yet. Play and have fun and learn to care for your starter equipment before investing in new, shiny tools. 3. Sample MiniaturesBut also like brushes, the numerical (0.Xmm) designation means little between different brands because the spray is as much about the taper of the needle as it is about the width of the nozzle. So, just aim to get something between 0.2mm – 0.5mm (0.3mm is usually the sweet spot). by the time it actually matters to you, you’ll be buying a proper Airbrush. This is my philosophy. Keep your hobby simple when you’re first starting out, and let the other “needs” emerge. Once you have primers out of the way, you can buy Airbrush Paints. Games Workshop now does a pre-thinned range of Citadel airbrush paints. which is fine for the convenience, but you can easily thin any of the existing Citadel range with something like Car Screenwash or Distilled Water. This is much easier too if you have already transferred your Games Workshop Paints to Dropper Bottles. Now you can Prime and base a Squad or whole army in minutes as opposed to hours, so if you’re wanting to get your models built and painted for a tabletop battle ASAP, there is no easier way. I’ll explain more in a little while as Cult of Paint Airbrushes may perhaps feature again on this list a bit further down…. Anyway, here it is. one of these. and yet again, we use the term generic because they are all the same but with different badges.
